MONTE DELLE SAETTE VERONA IGP 2021 750 ML
Corte Quaiara is located in San Giorgio in Salici (Sona), in the province of Verona, between Lake Garda and the hills of Valpolicella. Corte Quaiara’s wines are unconventional and full of personality, just like their producer, Giovanni Montresor. After an initial collaboration with a large Veronese winery, Giovanni revived Corte Quaiara with the goal of creating wines that capture the aromas of his land, allowing one to savor every nuance. Some of the grape varieties used, such as Pinot Noir and Golden Traminer, are unusual for the region where the winery is located, but they thrive in an ideal environment.
Monte delle Saette from Corte Quaiara is made from Pinot Grigio, Goldtraminer (a relatively rare grape variety in Italy), and Bianca Fernanda grapes grown on the morainic hills of Sona. They are harvested by hand, partly in late August/early September and partly in late September/early October. Fermentation lasts 10–12 days at a controlled temperature of 16°C, followed by separate aging for each individual blend component prior to blending: one portion ages exclusively in stainless steel for 1 year, and a small portion ages for 5 months in barriques. The overripeness of the Goldtraminer has yielded an enveloping aroma, while the wood aging of the Pinot Grigio has given the wine structure and complexity; it then ages for another 6 months in the bottle.
In the glass, it appears straw-yellow with golden highlights; on the nose, a bouquet of wildflowers, sage, and exotic fruit; on the palate, it is fresh and full-bodied, with notes of Renetta apple, pleasantly mineral, and a long, persistent finish.
It pairs excellently with fish, white meats, and light pasta dishes.
